Multi-media Creative Arts Exploration Team

Today's the last session of our course.
we held an exhibition to show our work!

The first lesson:
my mask/ your mask
(Worked in pairs, we traced each other's face through the transparency,
then we 'add' what we think of ourselves on the lines and shapes. This encouraged us to look into our strengths and flaws of our character. )

Second and third lesson:
I draw with my own tools!
(We
transformed ourselves as animals and see the world with our own eyes. After our special visits, we turned rubbish into useful tools to record what we see!)

Forth and fifth lesson:
Reconstruct our past
(We collected the fragments of part in the street and old community
by taking photos

and then put them together to show our lost dreams.)
Great Fun!!!!

my info - for children art workshops

Chérie’s Playground: Art in Education - Children art workshops

Instructor: Chérie

About me:

I am a multi-media artist and freelance children art workshop instructor. I am also an undergraduate student from The University of Hong Kong, reading English studies and Education (BA&BEd, a double degree programme). I have always been fascinated in exploring the ways to articulate my own thoughts/sentiments about my life and the world, especially in a manner of wandering between different art forms. My latest exhibition was held at SSA in the fall 2007. It was an installation art piece named “Collect the Skies/ Behind the Bars”, it was set up to examine the possibility in representing the facets of a city and the lives of people living in it. (More about the exhibition on: http://worksofcherie.blogspot.com/2008/12/collect-skies-behind-bars.html)

My Mission:

Picasso once said: "All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up." Children see the world with an imaginative and original eye. It is always my mission to nurture their unique sense of seeing the world and expressing themselves. The workshops are designed with the 3P framework, emphasizing on the aspects of Person, Process and Product. From this approach I will be are able to enhance children’s development in their aesthetic/emotional literacy, and most importantly, to enjoy the beauty of life.

Objectives of my teaching:

The three very important elements in my teaching are Creativity, Self-expression and Experience.

Creativity: Don’t be afraid of the immensity of the word creativity. Creativity derives from existing ideas. It is the transformations and new interpretations of certain existing forms. Creativity can be achieved step by step.

Self-expression: A supportive and open-minded platform for our kids to develop their own set of unique vocabulary in self-expression.

Experience: To facilitate our kids in establishing their own ways of seeing the world through ‘experience’ but not ‘teaching’, so as to retain their originality, sensitivity and curiosity. To experience life together, there is nothing more beautiful than this.

Let's play together!

Collect the skies/ behind the bars
Story:
A little girl, she lives behind the bars,
wandering between the city and it's buildings,
some visible, some not.

And that she loves thinking,
looking into the sky, staring into the void, to think.
So she has to search for a perfect piece of sky.

She ends up holding
a cluster fo scattered skies,
she sobs,
''you can collect all the pieces of the skies." says a drop of tear.

she carries with her her scissors,
cutting off pieces of sky,
when she gathers the skies......

故事︰
有個女孩,she lives behind the bars,

都處去collects the skies。
她堆砌著天空的碎片,然後。

artist statement:

'Set me free!'
I yelled, to myself.
'How?'
I questioned, myself.

I wander, around the city, between the buildings, along the streets.
Contemplating, my mind, my life, my world.
I gaze piercingly, into the buildings, into the smog.
Searching, the sky, the skies, my skies.

A surge of melancholia strikes me:
I was astounded, the visage of the city resembles my life.

Living between buildings,
living behind the bars.
Collecting pieces of skies,
collecting remnants of life.

To set up an installation piece is to create a continuation of the story, so as to articulate my feelings with visual elements and spatial assimilations. It is rather temporal in the sense that it is only an interpretation of the story, an engraving that sculpts my sentimentality of the moment in time.

Dear you,

Visibility is a trap.
Enjoy dancing in the reveries, the perplexity of reflections.
You constitute yourself.
You are the one.

Love,
Me.
